stereotyping people VS the fact

Why must people stereotyping one another?
let me just share you a story happen to me.
there are these 2 boys, who sit at our new counseling area.
i approached them, and asked politely.
"hi, how can i help you?"
and they actually discussing about the Uni ranking.
so they asked me which ranking are we using.
and i answered we are using the QS world ranking. as at 2012.
the boy asked again. so which kind of counseling are you guys providing us? what if we have problem in our study?
i answered, its for the new students. we are the marketing people.
and he added 'so you guys dont care about students feeling?' all you guys care is how to make money?
And i said to him. well, if you need help or you have problem in your study you can always approach the student and staff affairs department.
and his friend was like "he is kidding only" and i replied "yes, i knew."
well, i just wanna share how stereotype people can be towards other people and their job or on how they dress up or anything in particular.
specially us. the marketing people. yes, we care about reaching/exceeding our target. but what we care more is the quality of the product that we sell.
we may not always reach our target, as when our product have defect or having new competitors.
even bad rumors can condemn us.
that is how difficult our work is, especially when we are going traveling alone in other countries, represent our brand to the eyes of the world.
it is a risk that we are willing to carry. being hate or being accept by other people.
every intakes close, we will do postmortem to know what are the reasons behind the up and down of the numbers every year. to know what we can do to improve. to know what we can offer more. not only to take your money and give 0 service in return. that is soooo not us.
you are not in our shoes. so do not talk bad to people like us.
