Have you guys heard of Asia Music Festival? it's gonna happen soon on October.

When? its gonna be on 4th & 5th of October 2013.

Where? Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club, Miri, Sarawak, malaysia ( just in case people dont know where Miri is..lol)

Asia Music Festival is a 2-day musical event featuring artistes and musicians from Asian countries namely from India, Korea, Indonesia, Brunei Philippines and Malaysia.

 and again, as a freelance blogger, we have been invited to cover this awesome event ... woot woot...

cant wait to be there tho.

1. Anthony Dassan

 

Anthony Daasan’s Folk Ensemble -”Antoney Yenn Party” brings Tamil folk songs out of their rural moorings and presents them to urban audiences.
Fronted by Anthony Daasan – a Thirty seven-year-old folk artiste from Reddypalayam, a small town in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu, sings,dances on stage, acts, juggles, does acrobatics and even plays a few instruments – call him the performer, instead.
Anthony Daasan had been a folk artiste ever since he could walk, it was in his family. There are so many artistes who have made it big, but for him, it’s the art form that’s the winner. The way he performs in International festivals all over the world is same as he performs in villages-its the way he performs everywhere.
Anthony Daasan and a throng of traditionally-dressed performers conjure up images of the flowing Vaigai and Poigai rivers and of rich rice harvests brought into the granaries in carts.
Samuel Gunasekar on the drums and Sajith satya on the bass guitar — symbolically, in the background – give the distinctively Tamil sounds a new depth without threatening to overpower them.
More than a band, “Anthony In Party” is a platform for folk music that is continuously exploring indigenous and traditional forms of art.

2.  Bembol Rockers
                                   
If you’re looking for a unique mish-mash of kundiman (Traditional Filipino Serenade), jazz, swing, rockabilly, jump blues if you were big fans of Elvis the King, the unstoppable Rat Pack, those swoon-worthy Doowop groups and maestros of their instruments like Louis Armstrong, Thelonious Monk and Plas Johnson or if you simply want to try something new, then check out the Bembol Rockers.
It all started during the Summer of 2006, when Marc Liwanag, Lakshmi Kirtan das Ramirez, Archimedes Archie Lacorte, and Steven Hamilton Vasquez Mora decided to get together and create their dream band. With Marc on guitar and vocals, Lakshmi on upright bass and vocals, Archie on tenor and alto sax, and Steven on drums, the Bembol Rockers were born. And later on Rod Mijares replaced the saxophone with his twanging electric guitar, then Janelle Bernardo replaced Steven Mora on the drums.
The band was born out of a vision they all shared for the music industry, plus an undeniable musical chemistry that brought forth an arresting and innovative take on the classics of the 1940s and 50s. Having played in other bands before and having known one another for some years, it was clear that they are not merely men who play music, but true musicians who seek to learn and keep on learning their craft.

3. Boy Thai Band

                                    
 
When Boy Thai first burst onto the Thai music scene in 1995, the band was dubbed by the media as “Commandos of traditional Thai music in the Globalisation Age.” because of their bold and refreshing way of reinterpretating classical Thai music.
Within a very short period of time, this group of young musicians from a vast different background succeeded in changing the common perception that traditional Thai music was conservative, boring, outdated. Their music became a sensation with younger Thais and praised by critics, one of whom remarked that Boy Thai music “was the most innovative thing to have hit the Thai music scene.”
Under the guidance of Mrs.Amporn Chakkaphak Managing Director of Pisces Music, a well known music critic with extensive experience in promoting international artists, Boy Thai worked to develop a “modernized” Thai sound, by blending western rhythms with the color and temperament of classical Thai music. Their music showcased prominently ancient Thai instruments such as the Thai xylophone(ranad), flute and Thai percussion but played with a very upbeat manner, fusing influences ranging from samba, bossanova and modern jazz.
Boy Thai has released three albums: Siamese Samba(1995), Andaman Sun (1998) and Spicy Brazil(2000). Songs from these albums have been used on numerous occasions to epitomize “modern thainess” in tourism campaigns, cultural activities and contemporary arts events, both in Thailand and worldwide.
Their success was followed by invitation to perform at many international music events in Japan, Italy, U.S.A., China, Taiwan , Singapore, Malaysia and New Zealand. In addition two of Boy Thai’s original members have become leading lights in Thailand’s music scene :Sekpol Unsamran (aka Koh Mr.Saxman) has become one of Thailand’s most accomplished artists; and Narongrit Tosa-nga (aka Khun In) from the movie The Overture”, was instrumental in the dramatic growth of interest in traditional Thai music among young people.
In 2010, Pisces Music introduced “Boy Thai Generation 2” to continue the legacy of their founding members. This exciting new generation of 6 talented musicians brought new elements to the original sounds such as rap, hip hop, rhythm & blues. Their fresh musical outlook contributed to their rapid rise of popularity. In 2012 they have performed concerts to mark the 60th anniversary of Australia-Thai diplomatic relations in Canberra Australia and the 50th anniversary as sister cities between Bangkok and Washington D.C. They also performed with the prestigious Japanese musicians “Aun & Hide” at the East Asia “Kyousei” Forum 2012 in Sendai, Japan.

4. Soesah Tiedor
                                           
 Soesah Tidoer in English is Insomnia. We interprete Insomnia as a way of being. By getting up, we can do something and create something. When we do and create something, we will be being. If Rene Descartes said “I think therefore I am”, so we said “we insomnia (soesah tidoer) therefor we are”.
Soesah Tidoer was established at august 1999 by Wien Dwi Laksono. He is a popular and mature sculptor from Yogyakarta Indonesia. Now, Soesah Tidoer have eight member who come from many background, such as sculptor, academic musician, interior designer, buskers, and many more. By it different background, Soesah Tidoer have a unique musical colour.
By combine three genre, dangdut – keroncong – rock, Soesah Tidoer made his own style. In the course of his career, he was made an album which titled “Baju Manusia” (Human Clothes). The lyric of his songs contain social critiques, humanities, love, and contemplation.
Many events have done. In 2003, Soesah Tidoer joined with Ki Manteb Soedarsono, a puppeteer of wayang kulit, be a star in commercial advertisment of a product. In 2005, be guest star in Win Dwi Laksono sculpture exhibition. In 2009, be a guest star on gala dinner with Miss Univers 2009 from Venezuella. In 2010, be e guest star on Yogyakarta Art Bienalle X. In 2013, be a guest star on #Cong Idol 5 in Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta.

5. The Mountain Wind Band
                    
                                    
The Mountain Wind Band is a Country band formed in Miri, Sarawak in 2010 by four kelabits from Bario Highlands namely Lian Ballang (lead singer/rhythm guitar), Frankie Kapong (bass/ guitar), Herman Pasang (lead guitar/vocal) and Freddy Kang (drummer/vocal).
The current line up are Lian Ballang (lead vocalist/rhythm guitar), Freddy Kang (vocalist/rhythm guitar), Frankie Kapong (lead guitarist), Nelson Samali (bassist) and Noel Paran (drummer). Past member – Herman Pasang,Alfred Sagau (lead guitar/vocal), past associate member – Steve Paul (drummer).
Though considered as a ‘New kid on the block”,the Mountain Wind Band has performed at various functions in Miri, Bintulu, Kuching,Bario and Lawas at community rallies and dinners, golf tournament functions and dinners, school reunion dinners, corporate functions for companies like Shell Malaysia, Petronas Carigali , Borcos Shipping etc. The band has also performed during the Rurum Kelabit Food festival 2013, Pesta Lun Bawang 2012 and as well as various families functions and wedding dinners. Also the band have been performing on every Friday and Saturday nights at pub outlets in Miri, The Other Office pub and the Victoria pub, Eastwood Country Club and Resort.

6. V. Star
                                            
V.STAR is an emerging young South Korean female group who were finalist in KOREA’S GOT TALENT of 2012. They were trained under the supervision of prominent Korean musical director Kolleen Park, and produced by famous K-Pop producer Kim Hyan Soek. As being part of the new K-Pop movement around the world, and since the release of Psy song “Gamngnam Style”, V.STAR has gained a reputation and a unique sound among the emerging South Korean young bands. Their style became known as the new traditional Korean Fusion, as they play their music using traditional Korean music instruments, whether in original compositions or through new arrangements of famous Korean and Western covers. So their style is based on merging both Gugak traditions (Korean ethnic music) and modern sounds. V.STAR has been formed by the amazing Gwan Jihye, playing the traditional Gayageum (Korean zither, modified into twelve strings), joined by the very talented percussionist Kan Keun Hwa, playing Janggu (double headed drum with a narrow waist in the middle), the delicate Heejin Park playing the Daegeum (Korean flute), and the beautiful Ellie Kim singing Pansori (Korean dramatic melodies), Ellie also plays a second Gayageum and the keyboards in some shows. V.STAR has collaborated with some of the most famous Korean Pop and Traditional Gugak artists. And throughout the various experiences, they became a famous performance group. Their dream is to share Korean traditional music throughout the entire world and make people very happy through their performance.


7. Melissa Francis
                                          
Melissa Francis is a Director of the Company Platinum World Network Sdn. Limited. She is also an artist under the company. Other artists who were under-owned company is the Hairee Melissa & Angels. So far there are 2 albums that have been published by Platinum World Network, which Hairee & Angels ft, Melissa Francis 'Agi Agi idup Ngelaban' and the album itself Melissa Francis album 'Rain Perening'.

8. Foxy Girls 
                                

Satu lagi girlband yang siap mewarnai blantika musik Indonesia. Mereka adalah 4 gadis cantik yang tergabung dalam grup Foxy Girls yang merupakan girlband pertama yang jumlah anggotanya kurang dari 5 orang. Para group personil Foxy Girls ini terdiri dari Alea, Jessi, Melissa dan Jordana (Jordi). Foxy Girls is not an ordinary girlsband. They consist of beautiful models who used to walk on the runaway. Foxy Girls officially established on 12 September 2011. "Initial process was on 12th Sept 2011 from the  first auditions around 600 models in the audition, and until finally only the four of us that survived, well over 6 months, and we finally found the pretty girls. Surely we all love to sing. Basically we are model, but other than that we could also sing, "said Alea explained. the uniqueness owned by Foxy Girls girlband is the genre of music they choose. Unlike other girl groups in general are oriented to the K-Pop, Foxy Girls chose music genre blend of RnB, Pop and Malay.

9. Fakhrul Razi

Fakhrul Razi is an independent Brunei singer-songwriter. He began writing his own songs when he was 14 years old. He has performed in numerous shows and events in Brunei and international arenas since 2004. While being active in the music scene, Fakhrul Razi is also a TV host for the morning show Rampai Pagi at Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) and also currently a Radio announcer at Kristal FM, an independent radio station in Brunei. He is also one of the most sought emcees for important and exclusive events in Brunei Darussalam. 

10. Bob Yusof

                             

He is one of the local Sarawakian Artist with a soulful voice. Born from a reality Tv programme, Bob has performed in many prestigous events in Asia.  He is very versatile, he can sing in few other genre apart from what he normally do which is Pop and RnB. He sang very well in Malaysian traditional song genre.

11. Hevance

                                                
HEVANCE is a Malaysian Independent Iban rock band from Bintulu, Sarawak. Formed in 2001, the band was known to the public with their first single Semampai Ngenang in the year 2008 but what really boosts their popularity was the second single Aku Nemu which was in their mini studio album or EP titled Sada Ati in the year 2010. The song topped the charts in most of the local radio station in Sarawak which later was nominated for 3 categories in Anugerah Carta Borneo ERA 2010/11 organized by ERA FM. To be the only iban band nominated in the event, HEVANCE break the boundaries of local iban music to be accepted in a Malay Award.

12. Tritha 
                                              
Tritha is an ardent supporter of women’s rights and includes her ideas in her songs with “Lyrics that deal with women’s liberation, social oppression and sexual exploitation” (Hindustan Times)
In June 2012, she was featured on a full page in Marie Claire India as one amongst the ten most interesting young Indian women, and also that same month, in Tehelka Magazine.
Tritha’s picture has been traveling all over the world in 2011 and 2012 with the exhibition Women Changing India, organized by the Magnum Photo Agency and BNP Paribas.


13. The Starlets Band
                                                  
Did anyone remember this band from my post entry last year? Did the name Starlets ring a bell? ding ding ding....... yeah... this is one of the group that performed during Zee Avi Homecoming Concer in Miri in last year July. click here for flashback 

ooo.. I totally remember their energetic performance that night. not bad for a comeback ...

So all together we have 5 local Sarawakian performers during this Asia Music Festival 2013. not bad... not bad at all...
